Welding Nuts

Welding nuts are very durable fasteners for connecting two pieces of metal. Their design allows them to span gaps and are ideal for use in tight places. They are also available in hex and round base varieties.
The performance of weld nuts varies depending on the type. Generally, fasteners with annular projections are best for short-term use. However, they are also the most difficult to weld, as they require a flat sheet surface to meet continuous projections. Because there is no reliable non-destructive test for annular projection weld nuts, quality assurance practices often include destructive checking at the sub-assembly level.
A weld nut can be made to withstand light, medium, or heavy loads. A hex-type nut is suitable for heavy-duty applications while a tab-style nut is appropriate for lighter-duty applications. Weld nuts are installed with resistance welding techniques that balance current, pressure, and time. These parameters are crucial to the success of weld nut installation.
A good weld nut must be resistant to heat, and it should be able to handle high pressure without damaging the electrodes. The temperature should be relatively low, and the welding cycle time should be short. If possible, welders should carry out several trials in order to find the correct weld nut parameters.
